- The week was filled with so much love and help. Grandma Jan came down the entire week, first thing in the morning and asked what she could do to help. She washed mason jars, scrubbed and ironed shirts, polished all the shoes, gathered curly willows, made chair covers for her rocking chairs that matched the wedding, shopped, washed, talked, painted pallets in her yucky clothes and dollar store hat, helped, and a million little things off of the list. She was so sweet. She gave us her whole life this week.
- So did Grandma and Grandpa Jello. They gave us their whole lives and more this week, every day and hour they were just helping. My Mom sewed me a new dress, fixed Annie's dress, and did a million things.
- Sweet Grandpa Ruel took Seth for a haircut. I didn't tell him anything, just please take Seth for a haircut. I wish I could have been there to see that sweet Grandpa answering questions about what they should do with Seth's hair.
- Coy spent Tuesday packing up his life. It was very emotional for Mama. He sorted through Robosapien, "you are delicious and very good with ketchup", robot kits, highschool debate books, Sherlock Holmes collection, Mission stuff, clothes, computer, he just kept putting it all in the car. It was a hard day, lots of tears. Lots of tears of gratitude for how beautiful a gift it has been to be his mother.
- Friday we woke up early and hauled everything up to decorate for the wedding dinner. Preparations kind of stretched through the day, and before we knew it we were putting on our fancy duds. Picture a nice big gym at a church in Sandy. Picture stained pallets, fruit crates on their sides, the log rounds from Nic and Nate's wedding on the tables, white table cloths with a wedding invitation on each table. Picture so many loved ones coming in. The Evan and Angie Child family, Nic and Nate, Lee and Alyssa and Ryker, Uncle Jerry and Aunt Deanne, Suzy and Darrin brought Deanne and Jerry, Aunt Christy Rogers, Aunt Cindy Castleton, Jeni, all our precious grandparents, the Slichtitardinals, Jake, Colby and Jared North were at everything in their matching ties. We started with the Christensen family singing Nearer My God To Thee. We were singing it driving in the car and he said "I really want us to sing this at the wedding breakfast. It's my favorite song we sing together." We opened and didn't do very great, but it was okay. Grandpa Jello opened with prayer and after that Haven and Luke danced to "The Last Goodbye" from the Hobbit. It was beautiful. We then invited everyone to feast on Malaysian food. We served rice with malaysian curry (potatoes, carrots and chicken with coconut milk and curry sauce), basil and eggs, and steamed vegetables. We served brownies and cheesecake. When everyone sat down Coy announced the open mike, and invited the grandparents to come talk. The theme seemed to be, as far as our side talking about Coy, was Coy's courage in doing difficult things. Going from his baptism to choir, debate, mission. It was all so sweet. Grandma Jan got up and said "Coy is so stubborn! We all wanted to have apicture in matching shirts, bright yellow, and he wouldn't take off his red one! Then she basically said, "I think his stubbornness will get him somewhere someday."It was hilarious.
- Colby got up and said Coy is the most stalwart man I know. He talked about how he moved from West Jordan in the 7th grade and didn't have a friend, and how Coy befriended him and invited him to go to the Temple every Wednesday morning in the summer. Jake spoke too, huge "I look like a samoan with a man bun" Jake and talked about Coy's incredible example. It was so so sweet. Dad and I both spoke. I talked about watching Coy take a deep breath then walk up to sell cookies for Meg Rawson, the pink sugar cookies.I talked about how Coy stood by my side through some of my darkest hours when Dad was sick and unemployed, and didn't ask what for a job list but said "Mom, what do you need", how he learned at a young age to sacrifice justice at the altar of mercy. It was a very sweet and touching night.
- The closing song was "Love, Me", sung by Coy and played by Haven. Coy's voice has never sounded better.
- We stayed afterward for a huge decorating party. It was long and hard but ended up looking fabulous.
- The next morning it was the strangest feeling. I got up early and ran to the store for dry ice and a few things, and made golden eggs.It was ketchup, laughing, silence and strangeness. We had a nice quiet breakfast. Spen and Joseph played soccer, Coy showered. Aunt Nic and Uncle Nate are making the wedding video so they went up to video Haven getting ready and then came by and videoed everyone fixing Coy's hair, straightening his tie, tying his shoes (close up), going to the car and all of us carrying his stuff out and waving goodbye.
- The next thing we knew we were at the Draper Temple. On the way we talked about how we were going to be more or less. One more and one less. It was a sweet conversation. We sang a few songs. When we drove in they were walking across the crosswalk. It was fun. We went in and there was a moment that meant a lot to me. Each of them could choose an escort of their same gender. Haven had her mother but invited me as well. As they were walking Haven put her arm around her mother, and then stopped, turned around and held her other arm out for me.
- I was able to sit in the bride's room as she prepared for the sealing. I had a blessing that morning, and in the blessing was told that angels would be there, and that I would know who they were. I knew that Grandpa Coy was there to see Coy be sealed. I could feel Nana, and Grandpa Walker, and Gram. I was so overcome with love, and eternity, and eternal families, and covenants. She hugged us both and was escorted out. We waited in the sealing room. I want to remember every tiny part. Krista Garfield came and she sat there with her socks with LISA written on each one of them and asked a lot of questions. Grandma Jan sat by Kyla who is Haven's sister in law who is about to have a baby who will not live very long. She held her hand asked her questions. Grandma Jan cares about EVERYONE. The sun shone so brightly through windows, and the Spirit was so strong and so sweet. Kirsta Garfield came and was telling everyone that Scott and Angelle adopted her.
- We waited for a while and then everyone else came in. In that precious room was such a tender sweet Spirit, and such a collection of the people who mean the very very most to us in the world. Evan and Angie, Mark and Trina, Deann and Jerry, Cindy and Christy, Krista Garfield, Grandma and Grandpa Raspberry, Jello and Clark, Spencer and Rachel, Nate and Nic, Jeni, Annette, Aunt Laura and Uncle Chuck, Aunt Relle, Marcia, Jayna Darrell and John, Colby and Jered North. I just felt to praise heaven so much for all of those precious people.
- They came in with such looks of awe, love, excitement, wonder and love on their faces. The sealer gave beautiful counsel. He talked about the basic tenets of the gospel, faith repentance, baptism, gift of the Holy Ghost and how they are the answer to everything. He encouraged them to just speak kindly and not try to change each other, but to receive each other as they are and love and celebrate each other as they are. He talked about just using a kind voice in everything. It was so beautiful.
- He then asked them to come to the altar. The sealing ceremony is so exquistely beautiful. They were so sweet. Afterward he had them stand and look in the mirrors of eternity.
- They came out and Coy picked her up and twirled her around. We took a lot of pictures. They looked so happy and so beautiful.
- The reception was just as awesome and fun as we had hoped. We served cookies and white and chocolate milk. We had a billion cookies on glass trays. There was a fun soundtrack, you were there in picture, We had a grandparents corner with lots of chairs and rocking chairs that was awesome. They were so so cute.
- The receiving line lasted form 6-7:30. We had so many precious friends come. Simmons from Florida, Williams from New Jersey, Becky Johnson from College, Ramon and Jen, Tommy Anderson, Jacob Garner, Bowmans, so many cousins and friends. It was SO SO FUN!
- At 7:30 Grandpa Ruel sang Sunrise Sunset while the couple did their first dance. It was so precious. They then cut the cake, threw the bouquet, and then started a snowball dance. Haven danced with Luke and Coy danced with ME! It was so so so fun. After that everyone chose a new partner, then again. After the song they invited everyone and it was SUCH A FUN DANCE! Seth was so serious about dancing with Claire. At 9:00 we went out and made a tunnel for them to run through to the car. When they got there everyone put candy necklaces on them. The car had white streamers and white balloons and Just Married written all over it. Coy is SO FUNNY. He opened his own door and was about to get in. Dad ran up and told him to go around and open the door for his wife. HIS WIFE. He is so funny. He's so cute. He was just great all weekend. They drove off while everyone clapped and cheered.
- Today I feel like I watched a super crazy movie and it can't be my life, but I'm so grateful for the blessings. I'm grateful for a child that wants to do what Heavenly Father wants him to do and wants to be good and righteous.
- We missed you like crazy, don't you ever forget it.
Love you precious.
